Internal and Government Investigations

A company that suspects its employees or officers have engaged in procurement law violations or other misconduct must give serious consideration to conducting an internal investigation. Our team helps clients investigate these matters thoroughly and efficiently, understand the potential consequences under criminal laws or the False Claims Act, and make any necessary disclosures. We have the experience to handle these delicate issues in a manner that allows clients to remain in good standing with their customer agencies and avoid or minimize adverse action. We can also recommend remedial actions, personnel changes, or new compliance programs to prevent such issues from arising again.

We do this work both in the U.S. and internationally. We have investigated contract and grant work in places such as Kosovo, India, Afghanistan, and Western Africa.

Our past work includes

  • Investigating the procurement practices of the Kabul, Afghanistan office of an international development organization for violations of economic sanctions and anti-terrorism laws.

  • Investigating allegations of part substitutions and other manufacturing irregularities by a large military contractor, and making disclosures to the government.

  • Investigating an electricity market-maker’s responses to third parties’ manipulative trading practices, and recommending policy and system changes.

  • Investigating a large aerospace manufacturer’s time charging on a government contract, making disclosures under the FAR Mandatory Disclosure Rule, and guiding the company through a subsequent DCAA audit.

  • Representing a mid-sized IT contractor in a criminal investigation of the company’s labor category, international outsourcing, and immigration practices.

  • Investigating a large defense contractor’s alleged misuse of another company’s proprietary information in the competition for a government contract.
